Pre & Post Operative Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, highly effective treatment designed to support your body before and after surgery, helping to optimise recovery and enhance results.
Pre-operatively, MLD works to stimulate the lymphatic system, improve circulation, and prepare the body for surgery by encouraging efficient fluid movement and reducing inflammation.
Post-operatively, MLD plays a key role in recovery by:
Reducing swelling and fluid retention
Minimising bruising and discomfort
Supporting the body’s natural healing process
Improving lymphatic flow and circulation
Helping to prevent complications such as fibrosis
Treatments are carried out using light, rhythmic techniques tailored specifically to your procedure and stage of recovery, ensuring safe and effective support throughout your journey.
Whether you are preparing for surgery or looking to recover more comfortably and efficiently, MLD is an essential part of your care plan.
Please ensure you have approval from your surgeon before commencing post-operative treatments.
Post-Surgery Scar Management (4–6 Weeks+)
As your body moves into the healing phase following surgery, targeted scar management becomes essential to ensure optimal results and long-term tissue health.
From approximately 4–6 weeks post-surgery (once fully healed and advised by your surgeon), our scar management treatments are designed to support proper tissue repair and prevent complications such as fibrosis, uneven scarring, and restricted movement.
Using a combination of specialist techniques, treatments focus on:
Reducing the build-up of fibrotic tissue (hard, lumpy areas under the skin)
Improving scar texture, flexibility, and overall appearance
Promoting healthy collagen formation
Enhancing circulation to support ongoing healing
Preventing adhesions and tightness in the surrounding tissue
Early intervention is key — addressing scar tissue at the right stage can significantly improve both the look and feel of your results.
Each treatment is tailored to your surgery type and recovery progress, ensuring safe, effective care throughout your healing journey.
Medical clearance may be required before commencing treatment.

Lymphatic Drainage FAQ (MLD & BLD)
-
Lymphatic drainage is a specialised massage technique that boosts lymph flow to reduce swelling, ease inflammation, and support detoxification. We offer two methods: Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage (BLD).
-
We offer two types of lymphatic drainage:
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) – a gentle, therapeutic technique for reducing swelling, calming inflammation, and supporting healing.
Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage (BLD) – a more dynamic, contour-focused method that reduces bloating, enhances definition, and boosts circulation.
Pre & Post Operative Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, highly effective treatment designed to support your body before and after surgery, helping to optimise recovery and enhance results.
-
Pre & Post Operative Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, highly effective treatment designed to support your body before and after surgery, helping to optimise recovery and enhance results. This treatment can commence 10 days after surgery with consent for your surgeon.
-
MLD is a gentle, clinical-style technique designed to reduce swelling, support healing, and calm the nervous system.
BLD is more dynamic and contour-focused, helping enhance shape, reduce bloating, and leave the body looking and feeling more sculpted. -
Most clients experience little to no redness after a facial BLD session.
The techniques used are gentle, rhythmic and designed to move lymph — not irritate the skin.
Some people may have a slight temporary flush due to increased circulation, but it settles very quickly. -
Both MLD and BLD help reduce water retention, ease bloating, improve circulation, support detoxification, relieve inflammation, and boost overall wellbeing. BLD offers more visible contouring, while MLD offers deeper therapeutic benefits.
-
Lymphatic drainage can support:
Lymphatic congestion
Chronic swelling or puffiness
Digestive discomfort and bloating
Sinus issues
Hormonal water retention
Fatigue and sluggishness
Inflammation after illness or stress
MLD is ideal for therapeutic needs, while BLD is great for sculpting and fluid reduction.
-
No. MLD is extremely gentle and soothing, while BLD is still comfortable but includes more dynamic strokes. Both treatments are relaxing, and many clients fall asleep.
-
Most clients notice results from both MLD and BLD immediately — feeling lighter, less bloated, and more energised. Results continue to improve over 24–48 hours.
-
Results typically last several days/weeks depending on your attention to aftercare and lifestyle. With regular MLD or BLD sessions, improvements can become longer-lasting.
-
Both MLD and BLD are suitable for most people, but those with certain medical conditions (such as active infections, renal or heart issues) should check with a healthcare professional first.
-
For general wellbeing, initial session every 1–2 weeks for 4 sessions for maximum results is ideal and then you can space out the appointments after that for maintenance.
For ongoing issues like chronic bloating or swelling, weekly MLD or BLD sessions offer the best results.
A treatment plan can be created specific to your needs.
-
To ensure you get the best experience and results:
You must be well — please reschedule if you feel unwell or have symptoms of illness.
For facial lymphatic drainage: arrive with no makeup if possible, to allow full access to the skin.
Disposable underwear is provided for body treatments, or you can wear your own if preferred.
Avoid heavy meals and excessive caffeine beforehand.
Arrive hydrated, as lymphatic drainage works best when the body is well-hydrated.
Come in loose, comfortable clothing to avoid compression marks post-treatment.
-
To maximise your results and support your body as it continues flushing excess fluid, follow these simple aftercare steps:
Hydrate well – Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help your lymphatic system work efficiently and enhance detoxification.
Avoid salty, heavy, or processed foods – High-sodium foods can cause water retention. Opt for lighter meals and whole foods for the next 24 hours.
Keep moving gently – Light walking, stretching, or mobility work encourages continued lymph flow. Avoid intense or high-impact exercise until later in the day or the following day.
Limit alcohol and caffeine – These can dehydrate you and slow the lymphatic response, reducing the treatment’s effectiveness.
Wear loose clothing – Avoid tight waistbands or restrictive clothing for the rest of the day to prevent restricting circulation.
Take it easy – Feeling relaxed or slightly tired afterwards is normal. Allow your body to rest if needed.
Monitor changes – You may notice increased urination, reduced bloating, or improved digestion as your body processes fluid shifts.
Stay consistent – Regular treatments provide the best long-term results for swelling, inflammation, bloating, and lymphatic congestion.
Both MLD and BLD work best with good hydration and consistent care.
